Practical ENT – Ear Irrigation Ear irrigation is regularly undertaken by Practice Nurses. This session will look at: • A brief look at the anatomy of the normal ear Attendees will have the opportunity to examine each others ears, take part in a simple quiz and discuss some case studies. The session will include discussion around the advice given for throat infections with reference to evidence that supports this. This session would suit nurses who are interested in developing their skills and knowledge on a procedure that is routinely used in general practice. It will include discussion on the procedure and what guidelines there may be in place to support it. The importance of evaluating evidence – based practice as a basis for reviewing procedures and tasks allows us to examine our daily routines to provide safe and consistent practice. Biography: Jean Lyle is a Registered Nurse who initially trained in the UK and became a practice nurse in 1990. Following further study at the Royal College of Nursing she became a Nurse Practitioner in 1997, working in general practice and later as an independent prescriber. Her role included providing care for those patients presenting with minor illness, offering a same-day appointments, and for chronic conditions management delivered as nurse led clinics. She became involved in practice nurse education under the umbrella of Plymouth University, and during this period, helped establish the after-hours care that providing GP and nurse practitioner cover as a pilot for a Primary Care Trust (PHO). |
