Asthma in Maori and Pacific Children

Asthma is a health priority for Māori and Pacific children because it is more common, more severe and more likely to be fatal for Maori and Pacific children than for non-Māori non-Pacific children across all age groups.
The session will set the context for asthma and Māori and Pacific children including an update on reported inequalities in asthma rates and management.  The second part of the presentation will discuss strategies for the primary health care setting that aim to improve the quality of asthma care, contribute to better asthma outcomes and reduce inequalities for Māori and Pacific children.

Intended audience:  suitable for GP’s, nurses, community health workers and other health providers.  Open to all, however some knowledge about management of asthma in children would be advantageous.
